Hadlow United Vrs Southborough
25th September 2005 (WKSL)
2-0 Loss
After Garside had entertained the team pre-match the tough task of facing a high-flying Southborough side began.
The first half was all Southborough and when Hadlow did have the ball they failed to string many passes together. Southborough were using the full width of the pitch with both thier wingers staying close to the touchlines. They were unfortunate to have to wait till mid-way through the half to take the lead when their left winger walked un-opposed into the box to score at the front post. Hadlow hung on with, at times, some desperate defending and were lucky to go in at only one down.
The second half brought about a vast improvement. Hadlow saw more of the ball further up the pitch and retained it better but failed to make any clear chances. Southborough were still attacking down the wings but Hadlow's defence were getting a chance to catch their breath now. Mid way through the half a Southborough attack down their right produced a cross that was well finished at the back post, 2-0. Hadlow then changed to a 4-3-3 formation in bringing on their 3 subs and started to create some chances. They were unlucky not to score, especially when Webb hit the post with a volley after a fine cross from King.
Southborough moved top of the table with this win and Hadlow have not discraced themselves at this level, next a cup game against Brenchley.
