Hadlow United Vrs Brenchly
18th September 2005 (WKSL)
4-0 Win
Hadlow's inaugural visit to Brenchley saw them discover a small and heavily slopeing pitch bathed in sunshine. Bridges again proved what a good tosser he was so Hadlow chose to play up hill in the first half so that the low sun was in the opposition's keeper's eyes.
Hadlow started well and were unlucky to not be awarded a penalty when Excel was taken out by the keeper with the ball long gone. They did take the lead after 10 minutes when Webb beat 2 defenders down the right before squaring the ball along the six-yard line to Cooley at the back post, his shot was going wide but was turned in by a defender. Almost immediately Hadlow got a second when Garside, making his first start of the season, hit a first time shot from 30 yards, after a poor kick from brenchley's keeper, that just managed to avoid the keeper's dive and squirm under his body into the net. Brenchley spent most of the rest of the half attacking but Hadlow's defence and Midfield tackled well and on the one occassion they got a clear chance Kerton made a fine save from a one-on-one.
With the down-hill advantage Hadlow started the second half on the attack, with the returning Wood putting in several good crosses from the left. Further goals were added when Phil Betts rammed home a rising shot into the top left hand corner leaving the 'keeper with no chance.
Walsh was booked after a spat with their left winger boiled over.
A post match comment from an "independent source" - "Cooley got another taxi award; he tried to mount Phil Betts (collision) whilst running, and he subsequently stacked it, and fell on the floor, and stayed there, hoping no one would see."
