Hadlow United Vrs Q.E.D.
10th October 2004 (WKSFL)
With Matt Betts and Cooper absent Hadlow's biggest danger against newcomers QED was complacency. This risk was swiftly thwarted by two early Webb goals, one from an unselfish Leach pass and the other a typical Harvey through ball. Cook was then harshly judged to have handled the ball but the resulting penalty was blasted way over the bar.
Phil Betts then continued his fine right-wing performances to provide Leach with two close range headers that he couldn't miss, which is just as well following on from a few early easier chances that were spurned. In between these two goals came both a QED goal and one for Harvey from a corner.
With the game effectively won at 5-1 at half-time Cook replaced himself with Magic, Wood switching to centre half, and Garside made way for Excell who continued on the road to fitness. These changes did not stop the flow of goals against a very poor opposition. Harvey scored direct from a free-kick before Webb returned the favour to Leach with a simple tap in for his hat-trick. An Excell corner was met by Harvey's head for his hat-trick and it was just a case of how many. Another through ball by Harvey was finished by Webb for his third before the final goal, again from a corner, flicked on by Harvey, was volleyed home by Howie who was mobbed on scoring his first goal for the club.
Overall a facile win for United but one which puts them up to second with other results going their way and the games against Sporto are looking more and more like title deciders.
