Hadlow United Vrs Crowborough Town

14th December 2003 (WKSL)

United were again down to the bare bones, but had a decent eleven to take to the field.  Hadlow went 1-0 up in the first minute after the keeper handled outside the area and Leach planted the ball onto Garside’s head and he powered the ball into the top corner.  Just the thing to settle those nerves.  The lead was doubled when Harvey headed home a pinpoint cross from Webb.  There was a ten minute spell where yellow cards were the centre of attention, Wood and Donnelly where fouled and two Town players’ were cautioned in between those Excell was booked for a lunging tackle.  Crowborough pulled a goal back, but Webb restored the two goal advantage with  a fantastic run which culminated in a Crowborough Town defender putting through his own net.

Crowborough again cut the deficit and it was 3-2 at half time.  Webb continued hassling the Town defence and scored two goals in the second half to cap a great display, both supplied by Harvey’s defence splitting passes. Town did pull one back but it was too little too late.

Team: Cook, Shimell, Twocock, Carlton, Harvey (1), Donnelly, Garside (1), Excell, Leach, Webb (2).
