Hadlow United Vrs Red Heathen Reserves

19th October 2003 (KCFASJT)

Hadlow embarked on their 1st round Kent Sunday Junior Trophy at Red Heathen Reserves and an under-strength United team were outplayed for much of this contest.  Webb returned from injury but was still not 100% fit and he was isolated upfront with only long balls carved out for him.  Betts and Carlton performed well at the back again and Miles kept the score reasonable with an ever improving performance which earned him the Man of the Match award from Manager Cook at the end of the game.

Leach and Webb both departed shortly after the break when United found themselves 3-0 down and were replaced by Goldsmith and Race respectively.  Goldsmith tightened up the midfield and United who were two down at the break thanks to a penalty conceded by Excell, and a rebound that fell invitingly to Heathens striker, began to try and take the game forward but were caught on the break and punished to make it 4-0.

With United conceded to defeat the game lost it's shape and the only consolation came when Excell's' corner was flicked on by Goldsmith and Shimell buried his second of the season.

Team: Miles, Shimell (1), M.Betts, Carlton, Wood, Cook, Walsh,  Leach (Race), Excell, Muir, Webb (Goldsmith)
